about "The DOC"
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, chef-in-training at the
Natural Food Gourmet
Institute and former stand-up comic based in Riverhead, NY. I used to
call myself a life coach and I actually am an ASCM certified
Wellcoach (R) but in reality, I am
the world's first "Betterness"sm Coach. What my
clients have taught me is that, most people feel "Wellness" is just too
far away. Betternesssm, on the other hand, is just
one small change away. As a Betternesssm coach, I
specialize in providing guidance and support to clients interested in
re-claiming their health and vitality one small step at a time. Although I
do work with anyone seeking to improve their health, I am particularly
interested in clients battling with their weight. I use humor and
compassion to infuse people with a passion for their health. I help them
to see how the quality of their body's movement, the clarity of their mind
and the food they eat are all vital parts to getting what they really want
out of life. I then help them figure out how to actually make it happen by
guiding them to accumulate SMALL positive changes in their hectic life. I
have found that once you find the "right" small changes for you, they are
easy to do and they always accumulate to BIG results.
As it so happens, I also know a thing or two about being BIG! In addition
to all my training, I have been there! At a top weight of 410 pounds, I
have now lost over 230 pounds and turned from life full of destructive
eating habits to a life full of health and ADVENTURE. In my book "A New
Life in Progress- On the road to BETTERNESSsm! The
secret to making every "life gaining" step count toward improving your
health happiness and your weight." is the product of years of personal
experience, professional expertise and exhaustive research. I am here to
help you live the life you were meant to live! I am available for speaking
engagements, cooking classes, private and group coaching, kitchen "boot
camps", physical performance training and of course, physical therapy. My
practice, New Life in Progress, is located at 633 east Main Street,
Riverhead, NY 11901.

In addition to offering numerous seminars and demonstrations at New Life
in Progress, you can find me teaching healthy cooking techniques at
The Natural Food Gourmet
Institute in Manhattan as well as the Suffolk Community College
Culinary Institute. I also hold a teaching appointment at Touro College,
School of Health Sciences in Bayshore, NY and have instructed students in
Massage, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology and Therapeutic Exercise. I have
been part of the patient discussion panel at the International Conference
on the Practical Approaches to Obesity, hosted by Harvard Medical School
multiple times.
I also have appeared on the
Food Network and
on the Oprah and Friends XM radio show series with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.
My food related adventures have even landed me on the pages of The New
York Times, Long Island Newsday and Boating Magazine. I am also a
contributing writer for WLS
lifestyles magazine as well as many local, Long Island publications
such as Dan's Papers and The Suffolk Times.
I maintain memberships in the National Speakers Association, American
Society for Bariatric Surgery, The American Physical Therapy Association,
American College for Sports Medicine and The Obesity Society.
On my spare time, I love to spend time with his family and on the water.
I am a US Coast Guard licensed captain, professional sailor, kayaker and
rock climber. My kayaking adventures and mis-adventures have lead me to be
published on
paddling.net. Since my weight loss I have completed a few Triathlons
and paddled the open ocean from Montauk, NY to Block Island Rhode Island
as a
fund raiser for Miracle House.
